Indirekte Rede – Fragen wiedergeben
1. Zwei Arten von indirekten Fragen
Es gibt zwei Fälle: W-Fragen (mit einem Fragewort wie where, what, why) behalten ihr Fragewort. Yes/no-Fragen (ohne Fragewort) bekommen stattdessen if oder whether.
| Typ | Direkte Frage | Indirekte Frage |
|---|---|---|
| W-Frage | „Where do you live?“ | He asked where I lived. |
| yes/no-Frage | „Do you have a passport?“ | She asked if I had a passport. |
He asked where I lived. – nicht „He asked where did I live?“ Kein do/does/did, kein Fragezeichen, Wortstellung wie im Aussagesatz.
| Direkte Frage | Indirekte Frage |
|---|---|
| „Are you ready?“ | He asked if I was ready. |
| „Did you see the manager yesterday?“ | She asked if I had seen the manager the day before. |
| „Will you help me?“ | She asked if I would help her. |
4. Einleitende Verben: ask, want to know, wonder
Am häufigsten leitest du reported questions mit ask, want to know oder wonder ein.
| Direkte Frage | Indirekte Frage |
|---|---|
| „What is your name?“ | He asked what my name was. |
| „Do you like your job?“ | She wanted to know if I liked my job. |
| „Why is she late?“ | He wondered why she was late. |
5. if oder whether – was passt besser?
Bei yes/no-Fragen kannst du meist beide Wörter verwenden. In manchen Fällen klingt whether aber passender.
Merke: if ist im Alltag die häufigere Wahl: She asked if I had a passport. whether passt besonders gut vor or not und in etwas formelleren Sätzen: She asked whether I had a passport or not.
6. Landeskunde: Australia
Australia is both a country and a continent. Its capital city is Canberra, although the two best-known and largest cities are Sydney, with its famous Opera House, and Melbourne, known for its arts and sport events. Off the north-east coast lies the Great Barrier Reef, one of the largest coral reef systems in the world and home to an enormous variety of marine life.
In the centre of the country, in a region often called the Outback, stands Uluru, a huge sandstone rock that is a sacred site for the Aboriginal peoples, the First Nations of Australia. The Outback is vast, dry and sparsely populated, very different from the busy coastal cities where most Australians actually live.
Because Australia lies in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed compared with Europe: summer falls around December and winter around June. So when people in the northern hemisphere are wrapped up warm at the end of the year, Australians are more likely to be at the beach.
Vokabelhilfe
| Englisch | Deutsch |
|---|---|
| capital city | Hauptstadt |
| coral reef | Korallenriff |
| marine life | Meereslebewesen |
| sacred site | heilige Stätte |
| Aboriginal peoples | Aborigines, indigene Völker Australiens |
| the Outback | weites, dünn besiedeltes Landesinnere Australiens |
7. Typische Fehler – und wie du sie vermeidest
| Falsch | Richtig | Warum? |
|---|---|---|
| He asked where did I live. | He asked where I lived. | Kein do/does/did, Wortstellung wie im Aussagesatz. |
| She asked if I have a passport? | She asked if I had a passport. | Kein Fragezeichen; backshift have→had. |
| He asked what I did like. | He asked what I liked. | Kein zusätzliches Hilfsverb (did) in der indirekten Frage. |
| She wanted to know where was the station. | She wanted to know where the station was. | Wortstellung: Subjekt vor Verb, wie im Aussagesatz. |
| He asked that I was tired. | He asked if I was tired. | Bei einer yes/no-Frage steht kein that, sondern if oder whether. |
| He wondered why is she late. | He wondered why she was late. |
