Konditionalsatz II – unwahrscheinliche Bedingungen
If you hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in July, you would need a lot of water.
1. Typ I oder Typ II?
| Typ I: gut möglich | Typ II: unwahrscheinlich oder gedacht |
|---|---|
| If I win the race on Saturday, I’ll get a medal. (Ich habe gute Chancen.) | If I won the race, I’d be very surprised. (Eher nicht.) |
| If it’s sunny tomorrow, we’ll go to the lake. | If it were sunny every day, I’d never stay indoors. |
| If you call her, she’ll help you. | If dogs could talk, mine would complain a lot. |
Merke: Typ II: if + simple past, Hauptsatz would + Grundform.
| if-Satz | Hauptsatz | Bedeutung |
|---|---|---|
| If I had more money, | I would buy a telescope. | würde |
| If we left now, | we could catch the early bus. | könnten |
| If it got colder, | it might snow tonight. | könnte vielleicht |
| If I could fly, | I’d visit my cousin in Canada. | könnte (Fähigkeit) |
Bei be steht im if-Satz traditionell were für alle Personen: If I were rich … Im Alltag hört man auch was; in schriftlichen Texten und in Prüfungen ist were die sichere Wahl. Besonders fest ist die Wendung If I were you, I’d …
Die Frage beginnt meist mit What would you do …?
| Frage | Antwort |
|---|---|
| What would you do if you found a wallet in the street? | I’d take it to the police. |
| Where would you live if you could choose? | I’d live by the sea. |
| Would you go if they invited you? | Yes, I would. / No, I wouldn’t. |
| What would happen if the internet stopped working? | People would probably talk more. |
Merke: Kurzantworten mit would: Yes, I would. / No, I wouldn’t – nicht „Yes, I’d“.
| Funktion | Beispiel |
|---|---|
| Ratschlag | If I were you, I’d talk to your coach. |
| vorsichtiger Vorschlag | It would be great if we could meet on Friday. |
| höfliche Bitte | Would you mind if I opened the window? |
| Gedankenspiel | If there were no school, we’d get bored quickly. |
Nach Would you mind if … steht das simple past: Would you mind if I opened the window? Die Antwort No, not at all heißt: Nein, es stört nicht – mach ruhig.
| Deutsch | Englisch | Hinweis |
|---|---|---|
| Wenn ich Zeit hätte, … | If I had time, … | simple past |
| Wenn ich Zeit haben würde, … | If I had time, … | kein would nach if |
| An deiner Stelle würde ich … | If I were you, I’d … | feste Wendung |
| Wenn sie käme, würden wir feiern. | If she came, we’d celebrate. | käme = came |
| Was würdest du tun, wenn …? | What would you do if …?
6. Landeskunde: If you visited the Grand Canyon
If you visited the Grand Canyon in Arizona, you would probably start at the South Rim. It is open all year, and the views from there are amazing.
If you hiked down to the Colorado River in summer, it would get hotter with every step. Rangers warn visitors not to hike down to the river and back in one day in the summer heat. If I were you, I’d start very early and take lots of water.
And if you were really lucky, you might see a California condor flying above the canyon.
Vokabelhilfe
| Englisch | Deutsch |
|---|---|
| rim | Rand |
| view | Aussicht |
| hike down | hinunterwandern |
| heat | Hitze |
| warn | warnen |
| visitor | Besucher, Besucherin |
| lucky | glücklich (Glück haben) |
| condor | Kondor |
7. Typische Fehler – und wie du sie vermeidest
| Falsch | Richtig | Warum? |
|---|---|---|
| If I would find a wallet, I’d take it to the police. | If I found a wallet, I’d take it to the police. | kein would nach if. |
| If we left now, we will catch the bus. | If we left now, we would catch the bus. | Typ II: would. |
| What will you do if you won? | What would you do if you won? | would in der Frage. |
| Would you go? – Yes, I’d. | Would you go? – Yes, I would. | Kurzantwort lang. |
| Would you mind if I open the window? | Would you mind if I opened the window? | simple past nach if. |
| If I could to fly, … | If I could fly, … | could + Grundform. |
