| Situation | Beispiel | Was wirklich war |
|---|---|---|
| Bedauern | If I had known, I would have helped you. | Ich wusste es nicht, deshalb habe ich nicht geholfen. |
| verpasste Chance | If she had asked, she would have got the job. | Sie hat nicht gefragt, deshalb hat sie den Job nicht bekommen. |
2. Bildung: if + past perfect, would have + past participle
| Teil | Form | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|
| if-Satz | if + Subjekt + past perfect (had + 3. Form) | If I had studied … |
| Hauptsatz | would have + 3. Form | … I would have passed the test. |
| Kurzform if-Satz | ’d für had | If I’d studied … |
| Kurzform Hauptsatz | would’ve für would have | … I would’ve passed the test. |
3. Satzstellung – mit und ohne Komma
| Reihenfolge | Beispiel | Komma? |
|---|---|---|
| if-Satz zuerst | If I had studied, I would have passed the test. | ja, Komma nach dem if-Satz |
| Hauptsatz zuerst | I would have passed the test if I had studied. | nein, kein Komma nötig |
4. Alternativen im Hauptsatz: could have und might have
Statt would have kannst du im Hauptsatz auch could have (wäre möglich/in der Lage gewesen) oder might have (wäre vielleicht passiert) benutzen, wenn du keine sichere Folge, sondern eine Möglichkeit ausdrücken willst.
| Form | Bedeutung | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|
| would have + 3. Form | sichere Folge | If I had studied, I would have passed. |
| could have + 3. Form | wäre möglich/in der Lage gewesen | If I had studied, I could have passed. |
| might have + 3. Form | wäre vielleicht passiert | If I had studied, I might have passed. |
Merke: Nach if steht niemals would have – dort steht immer had (past perfect). would have, could have und might have gehören ausschließlich in den Hauptsatz.
5. Die drei if-Satz-Typen im Vergleich (+ Wiederholung Typ 0)
| Typ | Gebrauch | Bildung | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typ 0 | allgemeingültige Tatsache | if + simple present, simple present | If you heat ice, it melts. |
| Typ 1 | reale Möglichkeit in Gegenwart/Zukunft | if + simple present, will-future | If it rains, we will stay at home. |
| Typ 2 | unwirklich, Gegenwart | if + simple past, would + Infinitiv | If I had more time, I would learn Spanish. |
| Typ 3 | unwirklich, Vergangenheit | if + past perfect, would have + 3. Form | If I had studied, I would have passed the test. |
6. Landeskunde: Rosa Parks und Martin Luther King
„The civil rights movement in the United States is connected with the names of many brave people who worked for equal rights. One of the most famous stories is about Rosa Parks, a woman from Alabama. One day, she was asked to give up her seat on a bus so that a white passenger could sit down. She refused, and her quiet but firm decision became a symbol of the whole movement for equal rights.
Martin Luther King is another central figure of this movement. He became known as a powerful speaker who believed in peaceful protest rather than violence. In Washington, in front of a huge crowd, he gave a speech that is remembered around the world today. In this speech, he talked about his dream of a country where people are judged by their character, not by the colour of their skin.
Both Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King are remembered today as important figures in American history. If they had stayed silent, the civil rights movement might have looked very different. Their actions and words are still studied in schools, and streets, schools and public buildings across the United States are named after them.“

7. Typische Fehler – und wie du sie vermeidest
| Falsch | Richtig | Warum? |
|---|---|---|
| If I would have studied, I would have passed. | If I had studied, I would have passed. | Nach if steht nie would have, sondern had. |
| If I had study, I would have passed. | If I had studied, I would have passed. | Nach had steht die 3. Form, nicht der Infinitiv. |
| If I had studied, I would passed the test. | … I would have passed the test. | Im Hauptsatz steht would have + 3. Form, nicht would allein. |
