1. Verneinung mit to be
Bei to be setzt du not einfach hinter am, is oder are.
| Lange Form | Kurzform | Deutsch |
|---|---|---|
| I am not late. | I’m not late. | Ich bin nicht zu spät. |
| She is not at home. | She isn’t at home. | Sie ist nicht zu Hause. |
| They are not ready. | They aren’t ready. | Sie sind nicht fertig. |
Merke: I am not hat nur eine Kurzform: I’m not. Die Form amn’t gibt es nicht.
2. Verneinung mit have got
Bei have got und has got steht not direkt hinter have bzw. has.
| Lange Form | Kurzform | Deutsch |
|---|---|---|
| I have not got a pet. | I haven’t got a pet. | Ich habe kein Haustier. |
| He has not got a sister. | He hasn’t got a sister. | Er hat keine Schwester. |
| Aussage | Verneinung | Deutsch |
|---|---|---|
| I like tea. | I don’t like tea. | Ich mag keinen Tee. |
| He plays football. | He doesn’t play football. | Er spielt nicht Fußball. |
| They visited London. | They didn’t visit London. | Sie haben London nicht besucht. |
Falsch: He doesn’t plays. Richtig: He doesn’t play.
4. Verneinung mit can
Bei can setzt du not direkt hinter das Modalverb – ohne zusätzliches Hilfsverb.
| Lange Form | Kurzform | Deutsch |
|---|---|---|
| She cannot swim. | She can’t swim. | Sie kann nicht schwimmen. |
5. Alle Kurzformen der Verneinung im Überblick
| Lange Form | Kurzform | Lange Form | Kurzform |
|---|---|---|---|
| is not | isn’t | do not | don’t |
| are not | aren’t | does not | doesn’t |
| have not | haven’t | did not | didn’t |
| has not | hasn’t | cannot | can’t |
Merke: Bei allen Kurzformen fällt ein Buchstabe weg, und der Apostroph steht genau an dieser Stelle: is not → isn’t (das o fehlt), cannot → can’t (das no fehlt). Nur bei I am not gibt es keine Kurzform von am not, sondern I’m not.
| Positiv | Negativ | Deutsch |
|---|---|---|
| Open your book. | Don’t open your book. | Schlag dein Buch auf. / Schlag dein Buch nicht auf. |
| Wait a moment. | Don’t run. | Warte einen Moment. / Lauf nicht. |
| Be on time. | Don’t be late. | Sei pünktlich. / Sei nicht zu spät. |
| Englisch | Deutsch |
|---|---|
| Let’s go to the park. | Lass uns in den Park gehen. |
| Let’s play a game. | Lass uns ein Spiel spielen. |
| Please sit down. | Setz dich bitte. |
| Close the door, please. | Mach bitte die Tür zu. |
You open the door., sondern Open the door.).
| Englisch | Deutsch |
|---|---|
| Open your books, please. | Schlagt bitte eure Bücher auf. |
| Listen carefully. | Hört gut zu. |
| Look at the board. | Schaut auf die Tafel. |
| Don’t talk, please. | Redet bitte nicht. |
7. Landeskunde: Mind the Gap! Travelling on the London Underground
„Hi! I’m Tom and I’m eleven. In London, lots of people travel by London Underground. People often just call it ‘the Tube’. It’s a handy way to get around the city, and the trains go under the streets and under the River Thames.
At every station, you hear the same announcement: ‘Mind the gap.’ It means: watch out for the space between the train and the platform. On the escalators, there’s a rule, too: you stand on the right and walk on the left. That way, people in a hurry can walk past you.
The Underground has got many different lines, and every line has got its own name and its own colour on the map. The Central line is red, the Piccadilly line is dark blue, and the Circle line is yellow. Are you looking for your train? Just follow the colour on the map, listen for the announcements, and don’t forget: mind the gap!“

| Englisch | Deutsch |
|---|---|
| the Underground / the Tube | die (Londoner) U-Bahn |
| platform | Bahnsteig |
| gap | Lücke, Spalt |
| escalator | Rolltreppe |
| line | Linie |
| station | Station, Bahnhof |
| announcement | Durchsage |
| in a hurry | in Eile |
8. Typische Fehler – und wie du sie vermeidest
| Falsch | Richtig | Warum? |
|---|---|---|
| I not tired. | I’m not tired. | Bei to be darf am/is/are nicht fehlen. |
| He don’t like tea. | He doesn’t like tea. | Bei he/she/it steht doesn’t, nicht don’t. |
| I didn’t went home. | I didn’t go home. | Nach didn’t steht die Grundform. |
| Not run in the corridor. | Don’t run in the corridor. | Der negative Imperativ braucht don’t. |
| She can’t to swim. | She can’t swim. | Nach can’t steht die Grundform ohne to. |
| Let’s to go home. | Let’s go home. | Nach Let’s steht die Grundform ohne to. |
