much oder many – Mengen richtig benennen
1. Zählbare und nicht zählbare Nomen
Zählbare Nomen (countable nouns) kannst du einzeln zählen: one can, two cans.
|---|---|
| a can → cans | rice |
| a book → books | money |
| a toy → toys | time |
Merke: Nicht zählbare Nomen bekommen kein -s und keinen Artikel a/an. Sag nicht a money oder two rices, sondern einfach money und rice.
2. many + Plural, much + nicht zählbar
many steht vor zählbaren Nomen im Plural. much steht vor nicht zählbaren Nomen.
| Wort | Steht vor | Beispiel | Deutsch |
|---|---|---|---|
| many | zählbar, Plural | We don’t have many cans yet. | Wir haben noch nicht viele Dosen. |
| much | nicht zählbar | We don’t have much rice. | Wir haben nicht viel Reis. |
Bei ja (Plural) nimmst du many, bei nein nimmst du much.
3. a lot of und lots of in Aussagesätzen
| Beispiel | Deutsch | Nomen-Typ |
|---|---|---|
| Finja has collected a lot of toys. | Finja hat viele Spielsachen gesammelt. | zählbar |
| Our class collected lots of money. | Unsere Klasse hat viel Geld gesammelt. | nicht zählbar |
| Nils spent a lot of time on the project.
Merke: In einer normalen Aussage sagst du besser a lot of cans statt many cans. much und many passen vor allem in Verneinung und Frage.
4. How much? oder How many?
Willst du wissen, wie viel es ist, rückt How much oder How many nach vorn an den Anfang der Frage.
| How many + zählbar | How much + nicht zählbar |
|---|---|
| How many cans have you collected? | How much rice have you collected? |
| How many boxes do we need? | How much money did the class get? |
Merke: How many fragt nach der Anzahl bei zählbaren Nomen im Plural, How much fragt nach der Menge bei nicht zählbaren Nomen.
| Englisch | Deutsch | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|
| information | Information(en) | We don’t have much information about the project yet. |
| news | Nachricht(en) | There isn’t much news today. |
| advice | Rat, Ratschlag/Ratschläge | Our teacher gave us a lot of advice. |
| furniture | Möbel | There isn’t much furniture in the new classroom. |
| money | Geld | How much money is in the box? |
Merke: information, news, advice, furniture und money merkst du dir am besten auswendig: kein Plural, kein a/an, immer much statt many.
6. too much und too many
Willst du sagen, dass etwas zu viel ist, benutzt du too much vor nicht zählbaren und too many vor zählbaren Nomen im Plural.
| Beispiel | Deutsch |
|---|---|
| We’ve got too many boxes for the car. |
| There is too much rice for one bag. |
Merke: too many passt zu zählbaren Nomen im Plural, too much zu nicht zählbaren Nomen – genau wie bei many und much.
7. Landeskunde: die Everglades
„Hi, I’m Caleb and I live close to the Everglades in the state of Florida. The Everglades is a huge area of wetland, with slow-moving water, tall grass and many small islands covered in trees.
Many different animals live here: alligators, turtles, and hundreds of kinds of birds. My favourite way to explore the Everglades is on an airboat, a boat with a big fan on the back that can move over shallow water and thick plants.
Park rangers give a lot of information about the plants and animals, and they explain how important the wetland is for the whole region. It’s not a quiet place at all – there is always some sound, from birds, insects or the wind in the grass.“

8. Typische Fehler – und wie du sie vermeidest
